Term 4 Reflection

Term 4 Reflection

What have you enjoyed the most this term and why?
  • Impact, because I liked working with people that I hardly work with.
  • Book club because we are reading a really good book and I think it is the best one we’ve read this year.
  • Maths, because we have been doing lots of fun maths like tree graphs and algorithms.
What has been challenging this term and why?
  • Athletics, because when I run my back gets sore.
  • Kapahaka, because it is hard for me to pronounce the Maori words.
  • MDR. For me MDR keeps on getting harder, a little bit too hard.
What are you looking forward to next year?
Having a goat for calf club, because I have always wanted one.
Going into Marama  and doing technology.

Milk bottle homework

                                                  Milk bottle homework

For my project I am doing an army tank and the milk bottles are the tracks. I have already started and I am up to painting the tank. When I am done painting I am going glue it all together. I have had one challenge so far, I couldn't figure out how to cut the milk in half. I also had some help from my mum, sister and Richard.

Earthquake.

On November 14 Monday, just past midnight, Kaikoura was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. In the earthquake 2 people died, and it also triggered a tsunami warning. A few boats came to pick up some people from Kaikoura and take them to Wellington. One of the ships was a navy HMNZS from Canterbury. There were about 100,000 landslides.

A lot of people in Kaikoura were affected. Hanmer Springs and Christchurch also felt the earthquake with houses, buildings and roads braking. For NZ this has caused terrible memories, phone lines downs and hardly any transportation.

Learning in the making.

On the first Friday of school we had learning in the making. Learning in the making is when we do 4 activities and I did, scout skills, team building, my life weaving and badminton. My favorite was badminton, because it is kind of like tennis and I like tennis. In badminton I learnt how to hit the shuttle properly. I would always miss the shuttle but now I can finally hit it over the net.

In scout skills we had to go on a burma trail with a blindfold over our eyes, it was tricky because we had to go through trees and tunnels. In team building we played spotty problems and cross the river. In my life weaving, we used a canvas and weaved through some pieces of string.

The year six bike 2nd group.

On Friday in week 3 term 4, I went on a bike ride with some other year 6’s through the Karangahake Gorge. Mum came along with me and it was long, but fun. We had to go through a dark tunnel, on the edge of a mountain near the water and over a swing bridge. We also  went and looked at a beautiful waterfall.
At one part of the bike ride we stopped to have something to eat, after that we all went for a walk and look at a abandoned mine. At end of our bike ride we went and got something to eat from Mcdonald's in Peoria.

Labour Day

IN NZ we celebrate Labour Day on the 4th Monday of October because, in 1840, a carpenter named Samuel Parnell refused to work more than eight hours a day

We celebrate this day as a day of rest and no school or work and it gives us time to spend with our families. On Labour Day this year we went to my sister’s house for a few hours and then we went home.

My Holiday Recount.

On the second Sunday of the holidays my family and I went to Hamilton and did the Warrior Code. Before we did the Warrior Code we did a few fun activities. Some of the activities that I did were build a giant lego car, elephant ears (you could hear what an elephant hears) and life size connect four. When we went down stairs  to do the Warrior Code there were three activities and ten questions. Once you had done each activatie you got a number on each activatie screen, these are the three activities biking ( You raced the van on the screen while you are on a stationary bike.) , recycling ( You had to put the plastics cardboard and rubbish into the right bin) and power usage (When the one of the lights turn on you had to tap the screen to turn the appliance off). You also had to answer each question. Once you are done, you took your pieces of paper to a certain person and got given a badge relating to a certain description.

Term 3 Rerlection

What have you enjoyed the most this term and why?
  • I have enjoyed doing Impact because we got to finish a worm farm and we planted some plants, these plants were flax and native trees and the reason we planted them, well I don’t know exactly why.
  • I liked doing the block run, because it was a good chance for me to get out of school and run around town.
  • I enjoyed Cross Country, because I made it into Hauraki Plains.
What has been challenging this term and why?
  • My SRA has started to get challenging, because I have been moving up colours.
  • It was hard for me to learn the perimeter and the area of a shape.
  • My MDR, I found learning the parts of a circle very hard.
What are you looking forward to next term and why?
Calf club, because I like all of the baby lambs, kids and calves.
iMmake, because I can not wait to do building and all of the stuff that we will be doing.

String art.

This term in Whetu we all made a piece of string art. Making the string art that was fun.
Here are the instructions to making string art.

1. First you need to find a template and a nice piece of wood.

2. Once you have found a template that you like, print it out and blu tack the template to the piece of wood that you have chosen.

3. You will now need to nail in some nails on to the templates outline.

4. Once you have have finished nailing, take the paper off the wood, then find some string or wool.

5. Now you need to tin a knot onto a nail and and start weaving the string or wool  around the nails.

Tip: make sure that the sting is tight.
Here is my finished product.

The flags

Image result for NZ flag

I hoped the original flag would stay. I wanted to keep this flag, because it would waste lots of New Zealand’s money to change the flag and there is no point changing the flag. I like this flag better than the new flag. If we changed the flag, the flag would not have the English Star. The English Star came from England, it’s another name for the Union Jack. I don’t like the black on the new flag. I think the Australians should change their flag because people say that Australia copied New Zealand's flag. I felt very happy when I heard that the original flag was staying.

Easter

Image result for easter bunny
We celebrate Easter because Christians believe that Jesus died on
25 March {Good Friday}. On 27 March Mary came to see Jesus’s tomb where he was buried, finding it empty. The angel told Mary that he had risen. Good Friday is on the 25 March before Easter Sunday 27 March. Christians celebrate Good Friday because on Easter Jesus was risen.

A lot of people eat hot cross buns as a tradition on Good Friday. The cross on the bun is to represent the cross that Jesus died on. We have Easter eggs because when they are cracked open it is empty, like when Mary found Jesus tomb empty.

In the morning we go for a easter egg hunt and sometimes get a present. In the afternoon we eat our eggs.
